The number of newly infected with coronavirus in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to grow, and people over the age of 60 and people with comorbidities remain the most vulnerable.
The data show that in the Federation of BiH, as many as 86% of deaths from COVID-19 were older than 60 years, and this clearly shows the importance of vaccinating the elderly population.
Vaccination against COVID-19 is a reliable and effective measure that protects against severe forms of disease, hospitalization and death. However, current data on vaccination of the Institute of Public Health of the Federation of BiH show that only 36% of persons older than 60 were vaccinated with the first dose, and 25% were fully vaccinated.
One of the reasons for indecision towards the COVID-19 vaccine is also safety issues related to rare side effects, such as the formation of blood clots. It is a very rare side effect after vaccination against COVID-19, which is more common in younger people. On the other hand, the data indicate a frequent occurrence of blood clots in people with COVID-19, and that more than a fifth of hospitalized patients had blood clots.
The benefits of vaccination far outweigh the potential risks. The data show that all vaccines against COVID-19 are very effective against severe forms of the disease that require hospitalization.
The Public Health Institute of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina calls on persons over the age of 60 to respond to vaccinations as soon as possible and thus protect their health and life, is stated in the press relase.
