3,777 Shells fired at Sarajevo on the 22nd of July 1993!

On this day in 1993, on the capital of BiH, a record of 3,777 grenades were fired in a single day. They did tremendous damage, killed civilians, women and children, cultural and religious buildings were bombed, including even hospitals. During the siege of Sarajevo, an average of 329 shells would hit the city on a daily basis.

The siege of Sarajevo lasted for 1,425 days and is considered to be one of the longest in the history of modern warfare.

During the siege, 11,541 people were killed, and 1,601 of them were children. The siege of Sarajevo lasted for 4 years. A total of 120 minethrowers and 250 tanks of the JNA were stationed on the hills around Sarajevo. They later ended up in hands of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS).
