During the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF), held August 14–21, 2026, Sarajevo Canton recorded a rise in tourism, according to the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board. Statistical data from the Board shows that a total of 43,010 tourist arrivals were recorded during this year’s festival, which represents a 2.4 percent increase compared to 2025, when 41,980 arrivals were registered.
At the same time, 88,105 overnight stays were recorded, which is a 1.6 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025, when 86,655 stays were registered.
Most guests during the Sarajevo Film Festival came from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Turkey, Slovenia, and Montenegro, which confirmed the festival’s ability to attract both regional and international visitors.
Haris Fazlagić, President of the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board, emphasized that this year’s SFF results once again demonstrate how much major events are significant for tourism and for enhancing Sarajevo’s international visibility.
“Over time, the Sarajevo Film Festival has become more than just a film festival. It is one of the most important tourist events in our country and a major driver of arrivals and overnight stays. A 2.4 percent increase in arrivals and a 1.6 percent rise in overnight stays compared to last year show that Sarajevo continues to strengthen its position as an attractive European destination. We are especially pleased to see guests arriving from numerous countries, which is the result of joint efforts to promote the destination and offer engaging programmes,” Fazlagić said.
The Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board stated that the results achieved during the Sarajevo Film Festival confirm the city’s potential as a year-round destination. This proved the importance of major events in promoting and developing local tourism.
