Statement on Media Coverage of Protests in Bosnia and Herzegovina

andyThe Delegation of the European Union/EU Special Representative Office today called for the highest ethical and professional standards in the reporting of protests in Bosnia and Herzegovina. EUD/EUSR Spokesperson Andy McGuffie said:

“Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are looking for accurate information about, and balanced analysis of the current protests. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s media organisations have a key role to play, and we welcome the dedication and work of many journalists over the past week.

“We appreciate very much the leadership on this issue already shown by the BiH Journalists’ Association and the Press Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina and fully support their statements.

“We look to the media organisations in BiH to exercise leadership too and ensure that coverage does not exploit events to raise ethnic tensions or create fear or divisions. At all times coverage should be fair, objective and based on facts – citizens deserve no less.”
