Organized by the Committee of the Government of the Republika Srpska for nurturing the tradition of liberation wars, 83 years since the Battle of Sutjeska were marked at Tjentište. The commemoration program began with the laying of wreaths and flowers at the Memorial Ossuary.
The Battle of Sutjeska, better known as the German operation “Black” or the Fifth Enemy Offensive, lasted from May 15 to June 16
in 1943.
More than 120,000 soldiers of the Axis Powers surrounded five times weaker partisan units.
Complete destruction, as the goal of operation “Schvarc”, did not succeed, because after the breakthrough of the ring, the majority of the forces of the People’s Liberation Army broke into the free territory.
