At the general Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Rome, Sarajevo and East Sarajevo were officially proclaimed as hosts of the winter European Youth Olympic Festival in 2017.
Sarajevo and East Sarajevo were equal candidates for the organization of this competition. The European Youth Olympic Festival is the biggest European sports competition in which all 49 member countries of the European Olympic Committees participate. At least 1.500 athletes compete on this festival.
” I would like to congratulate the Mayors of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo who are now the official hosts of the games. The Olympic Committee of Bosnia and Herzegovina has supported this project and this is a great award for all the hard work. In our effort to have the honor to organize this festival, we had support of all committees form the region but also from Europe. So far, this has been a very important project, and I think that we should all support it. Great amount of work is ahead of us, but we will have all the support from all levels of the Government”- said Siniša Kisić, the member of the presidency of the Olympic Committee in Bosnia and Herzegovina
At the general assembly of the European Olympic Committees, Bosnia and Herzegovina was represented by the members of the presidency of the Olympic Committee in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Izet Rađo, Siniša Kisić and Marijan Kvesić and the Mayors of Sarajevo and East Sarajevo, Alija Behmen and Vinko Radovanović.
