For the first time in history, the women’s volleyball national team of BiH qualified for the European Championship!
Our volleyball players won second place in the qualifying group F. From the five matches that were played so far, they have recorded three victories with a set difference of +4 and in the round before the end, they managed to qualify for the competition of the best European teams.
Last night in Zenica, Stevan Ljubicic’s team defeated Latvia with the result of 3:0 in sets (25:20, 25:15, 25:11) and in that way secured a place in the European Championship before the end of the round.
The Czechs won first place with all five victories, while the Slovenians got third place with a ratio of 2-3, but also a set difference of -3 so that today (8 p.m.) in the last round, even with a possible victory with a score of 3:0 over our selection they can’t get the second place. Then both selections would be at a ratio of 3-3, but our selection would have a set difference of +1, while the Slovenians would then be at 0.
Members of our national team were close to qualifying for the European Championship two years ago, however, in the last round in a direct duel, they lost to Romania 3:2.
The European Championship will be held in Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania from August 18th to September 4th this year.
Besides our selection and four hosts, Turkey, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Switzerland, Sweden, Ukraine, Greece, Spain, Slovakia, Finland, Hungary, France, and the Czech Republic will also participate, Klix.ba writes.
