With the arrival of the new tourist season, Mostar Airport will finally revive, given that the return of Eurowings and the introduction of seasonal flights to Dusseldorf have been agreed, while negotiations for landing planes on the Mostar area from Poland and Hungary are coming to an end.
Mostar Mayor Mario Kordic explained that the story of the return of Eurowings is certain and that it is a continuation of previous agreements and contracts for the return of seasonal business from Dusseldorf from June 30th, which will last until the end of August, but that air connections are being established with Poland as well.
“At the end of this week, our delegation will travel to Poland to sign a contract with a charter company that will have regular flights to Mostar. This is religious tourism, which is very important to us because of Medjugorje because most of them are passengers at Mostar airport,” Kordic noted.
Further, he emphasized that along with intensive negotiations with airlines, technical repairs of Mostar Airport are coming to an end in order to meet the conditions of other airlines for landing planes on Mostar soil, so that the largest city in Herzegovina can be connected by air as soon as possible and as with many cities in the world.
“I hope that we will move toward Budapest very soon and talk with Wizz Air, that is the concept we are guided by,” said Kordic, convinced that Mostar Airport will have flights to Hungary this summer and start writing new pages of a successful business.
He pointed out that Mostar Airport will have some flights this season for sure, but he wants Mostar to be connected with as many countries as possible as soon as possible, both for tourism and everything else that will lead to a better image of the largest city in Herzegovina.
Apart from modernization, Mostar Airport will use the allocated funds to subsidize low-cost carriers to start flights to Mostar Airport since this company has not been able to earn even for workers’ salaries since the pandemic.
The total financial part of the airport traffic (air services) as of August 2021 is 68.384 BAM, which is not enough for salaries, considering that the mentioned company has 58 employees, which is significantly more than at the time when it operated the largest number of flights.
