A Difficult Situation in the Hands of Becirovic: The Appointment of Borjana Kristo and Dodik’s Demands are on the Table

Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency member from the rank of Bosnian people, Denis Becirovic (SDP) will be the focus of political events in the upcoming period, as he is expected to prevail on one side or the other.

It is the Presidency of BiH that must first give a mandate to Borjana Kristo for the composition of the Council of Ministers. And it is clear that she will not get a yes from Zeljko Komsic, so Zeljka Cvijanovic and Denis Becirovic will decide. Cvijanovic has no dilemma, and Becirovic has not raised any objections to her appointment either.

Komsic, as the leader of the DF, will not support the HDZ staff for the chair of the Council of Ministers because of the policy towards the HDZ and vice versa, and he has already requested that Kristo come to the Presidency and submit a plan and program and answer some questions regarding the NATO route. This has not been the practice so far and it is certain that Kristo will not respond to such a call.

However, due to the agreement between the Eight and HDZ for power at the state and federal levels, Becirovic is in a difficult situation. That bloc of parties will expect from him unreserved support for the appointment of Borjana Kristo, and such a proposal will be on the table as early as tomorrow.

When Becirovic votes for Kristo, he will probably have to take political blows in the form of criticism from the opposition, but he already had to count on that.

Moreover, after Kristo, Milorad Dodik’s priorities are also on the agenda, namely the eastern gas connection (gas pipeline from Serbia for Russian gas), the construction of the airport in Trebinje (investment of Serbia) and the construction of the Buk Bijela Hydro Power Plant on the river Drina (investment of Serbia and the Republika Srpska (RS).

Two days ago, it was announced that Becirovic would make the approval for the eastern gas connection conditional upon the adoption of the state law on gas. However, it is a question of political strength for such a thing to happen. Milorad Dodik will inevitably insist on his conditions, and Becirovic will be the first barrier in the politics of the Eight, which has already sent messages that a compromise is being sought for the projects that Dodik insists on.

The question is how the Hydro Power Plant project on the river Drina will be justified, given that the project is not run by the state, but initiated by the RS, although subsequently, the Constitutional Court of BiH ruled that the entity cannot grant concessions and despite the fact that there is no agreement on the border between BiH and Serbia and that Drina is a great hydro potential, the situation in the hands of Becirovic is becoming increasingly difficult, Klix.ba reports.
