A large Cleaning Action will be organized on the Shores of Lake Modrac

Next weekend, on the occasion of Earth Day, a large cleaning action will be organized on the shores of Lake Modrac in which several hundred volunteers will participate. Utility companies are already on the ground removing waste from wild landfills around the lake, and the BHRT team witnessed the citizens’ irresponsibility towards this natural treasure.

Tons and tons of garbage on dozens of wild landfills in the coastal area of Lake Modrac testify to the enormous irresponsibility of the citizens towards this area, which in the pre-war period was a favorite picnic spot for the citizens of Tuzla, Lukavac and Živinice. In Tuzla Komunalac, they say that this area was cleared of garbage three years ago, but that without a radical change in the awareness of the citizens, as well as the penal policy in this area, the problem cannot be solved permanently.

Only during the first day of the campaign to clean up the coastal area of Lake Modrac, the workers of the Communal Enterprise from Tuzla removed about 300 tons of solid waste from wild landfills. It is estimated that during the next seven days, as long as this action lasts, about 2,000 tons of waste will be removed from illegal landfills in this area.

The city authorities of Tuzla have an ambitious plan to return this area to the citizens and enable recreation, sports and tourist activities, but they will always ensure the supervision of the coastal area so that we do not soon have new illegal landfills, BHRT writes.
