Sanela Kaikcija, a librarian at the Olovo City Library, works with children in a specific way.
She, dressed in a fairy costume, visits local schools, all with the intention of encouraging children to love books and reading.
For almost fifteen years, she waited for a job in her profession, so that, as she said in an interview, she could pass on what she loves to other people, especially to the youngest ones.
Knowledge centers
”It was worth the wait because I’m finally doing a job I love, you can see my love and dedication. Olovo is a small town, but full of wonderful people from whom I have support, and more and more of them are in the library, which was one of my goals,”Kaikcija stated.
Considering that children spend more and more time on smartphones and social media, she came up with a way to separate children from all that and further motivate them to read books.
”The library, books, and science are systems for lifelong learning and self-improvement. Services provided in libraries cannot be obtained anywhere else, they are centers of knowledge, activities, creativity, gatherings and socializing, trust, and sources of information. The very appearance in the costume keeps and captures the attention of those who watch and listen, and then it is necessary to perform dynamically and adventurously to keep the attention until the end,” she explained.
Positive reactions
She pointed out that she is more than satisfied with the reactions of the children, as well as the parents, and that she receives praise for her work every day.
”Parents call me every day and tell me to call their children to the workshops, they ask when there will be social gatherings in the library again and that I don’t leave them out. They want me to organize workshops more often because they think that what I do is wonderful. I try my best to make the little ones have a good time so that they want to come again,” this positive ”fairy librarian” stated, Avaz reports.
