Yellow Fortress, the national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, will soon be transformed into a museum complex, i.e. a museum installation of canons. The project of the construction of the first museum of canons in BiH is being implemented by the Memorial Fund of the Sarajevo Canton.
Conceptual design for the project was made by the Institute for protection of cultural and historical heritage of the Sarajevo Canton and the museum, which would be situated on the Yellow Fortress, would be connected to the Museum of Alija Izetbegović with walls.
“We have already made the conceptual design for this project in cooperation with the Institute for protection of cultural and historical heritage of the Sarajevo Canton. This year we will alco complete the implementation project, after which we will start working on providing other necessary financial means. We have already been given some promises, concretely from the City of Bursa, who offered us canons once the museum construction begins,” said the director of the Memorial Fund of the Sarajevo Canton Nurudin Džiho.
The canon museum should be consisted of two sections, indoor and outdoor section. The museum would feature five cannons, as well as a café and area where the visitors could enjoy the most beautiful panorama of Sarajevo with telescopes. Some have already expressed interest in investing money in the canon museum.
“The installations would present periods from the Ottomans to the aggression on BiH. A canon shot would be heard every night at Maghreb. This would certainly attract tourists. They could see Sarajevo from this place and enjoy Bosnian drinks and dishes in the café that we intend to open. So far we have received an offer from the Suleymaniye Waqf who wanted to finance the project with two million BAM, but they asked for concession to 49 years, which was unacceptable for us,” Džiho said.
As stated, the project is being executed in cooperation with the Institute for cultural and historical heritage of the Sarajevo Canton. Currently it is being waited for urban and building permit from the Municipality of Stari Grad at whose grounds the Yellow Fortress is located.
