A Night at Trnopolje” event was marked last Night on the Grounds of the former Prijedor Camp

Yesterday, a commemoration was held on the site of the former “Trnopolje” camp, with a history class, debate, photo exhibition, and promotion of a monograph, marking the 31st anniversary since the world learned about the existence of this concentration camp in Prijedor.

Branko Culibrk, an activist from the “KVART” Youth Center, recalls that August 5th is the day when the world learned about the existence of the “Trnopolje” camp in 1992.

”It (the camp) was used to detain the non-Serb population from the area of Prijedor. The goal of this event is that in addition to the commemorative character, where we remember all the horrors that happened in 1992 while people were imprisoned in that camp, somewhere in the present we understand the context of that time,” he says.

He recalls that the camp in Trnopolje was formed in 1992 by the decision of the Prijedor Crisis Staff, with the intention of housing the civilian population from the area of Kozarac, and civilians from other Prijedor settlements were also brought there.

The Hague Tribunal sentenced a total of 19 people to more than 270 years in prison and two life sentences for the crimes committed in Prijedor. The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) sentenced 22 people to 378 years in prison due to the crimes committed in Prijedor.

Moreover, the Hague judgments established that of all the camps and detention facilities established in the area of Prijedor, “Trnopolje” had the most inmates, Detektor reports.
