In her traditional New Year’s speech, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark announced that she would abdicate from this position and that she would no longer be queen.

According to the first information, the queen should formally leave the throne on January 14 after 52 years on the throne of Denmark.

Her eldest son, Prince Frederik, should succeed her in this position.

After announcing her decision to abdicate, the Queen thanked everyone for the great support and help she received over the years.

“I hope that the new royal couple will be welcomed with the same trust and affection as I am. God, protect Denmark,” she said.

This decision is quite a shock for the Danish public, and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also announced everything.

“On behalf of the entire population, I would like to thank Her Majesty from the bottom of my heart for her lifelong dedication and tireless efforts for Denmark. Although the duty and function has been handed down for more than 1,000 years, it is still difficult to understand that the time has come for a change of throne,” she stressed, Klix.ba writes.
