An earthquake struck southern Italy overnight, with many residents of Naples spending the night outside their homes, sleeping in cars and on the streets.

According to seismologists, the epicenter of the earthquake was near the city of Pozzuoli, where one person was injured when a house collapsed.

Seismologists in Italy said the earthquake struck at 1:25 a.m. local time and measured 4.4 on the Richter scale. American seismologists reported a magnitude of 4.2.

In Naples, which is located just under 20 kilometers from the epicenter, power outages occurred in parts of the city, and many residents spent the night outside their homes.

There was no major damage to the city itself from the natural disaster. Damage was reported to one house and several cars, but fortunately there were no casualties.
