Von der Leyen: A new International Order will emerge before the End of this Decade

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for the creation of an independent Europe.

At the award ceremony for her contribution to European unity, she warned against the mistaken belief that the geopolitical situation will return to the old way because tensions between international actors are enormous.

She said that great powers are ready to use all means, fair and unfair, to gain an advantage. She pointed to the war in Ukraine, and stressed that the need to invest in European security is becoming increasingly important.

“A new international order will emerge before the end of this decade. If we do not want to simply accept the consequences that this will have for Europe and the world, then we must shape that new order. History does not forgive hesitation or procrastination. Our mission is European independence,” she said.
