An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of Hakui, Ishikawa Prefecture, western Japan.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake’s epicenter was 35 kilometers northwest of Hakui.
It struck at a depth of 10 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
No tsunami warning was issued after the quake.
According to Kyodo News, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the quake had a magnitude of 6.4.
