A strong Earthquake hit Tibet, killing more than 50

At least 53 people have been killed and 62 injured in a devastating earthquake that struck China’s mountainous Tibet region early this morning.

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake has struck China’s southern Tibet region, state media reported.

At least 53 people have been killed and 62 injured, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The quake struck the holy Tibetan city of Shigatse at 9:05 a.m. local time. It was recorded at a depth of ten kilometers.

Local officials are currently trying to determine the magnitude of the earthquake.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.1.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered authorities to launch a large-scale search and rescue operation for trapped people.
