At the beginning of the week, the Department for European Integration and International Cooperation of the Brčko District Government of BiH launched the Diaspora Registry, a unique application on the District Government’s web portal.
The obligation to create that register stems from the Strategy for the Development of Cooperation with the District’s emigration, which was adopted in 2020.
The population of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and therefore the citizens of the Brčko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, have emigrated to more than 50 countries around the world in the last few decades.
The Head of the Department for European Integration and International Cooperation of the Brčko District Government of BiH, Miroslav Geljić, said that the Diaspora Registry will serve as a link between emigrants and their hometown.
“The aim of this measure is the mapping and identification of emigration in the Brčko District of BiH for the purpose of planning and implementing programs and projects, as well as cooperation activities. The register consists of records of natural and legal persons, which will serve us to create a database of emigrants and emigrant organizations and associations that gather emigrants, and which want to cooperate with the Brčko district of BiH,” said Geljić.
He added that this Register will be updated on the basis of voluntary applications of emigrants via the portal located on the website of the Government of the Brčko District of BiH, who are originally from the Brčko District, and whose aim is to develop and strengthen the cooperation of people from the diaspora with the institutions of the Brčko District BiH.
Geljić called on all Brčak men and women who are abroad to fill out the necessary form and register in the Diaspora Register, and in this way contribute to the development, improvement and prosperity of the local community from which they originate.
