Garbage covered over Thirty Percent of Sava River

Floating objects and garbage covered 30-40 percent of the surface of the Sava River due to the large increase in the river level, which is the result of a large storm and the amount of precipitation upstream, said Captain Mladen Rogić of the Captaincy of Brčko District of BiH.

He reminded that this kind of situation on the Sava River is common at the beginning of autumn and that with the increase in the water level, the water carries all unwanted objects and garbage from the shore and obstructs the smooth waterway.

“Floating objects can be a big problem for vessels that are tied to the coast, and with an untimely reaction, large floating objects, trees and garbage can damage vessels due to a water impact that is greater than usual,” Rogić emphasized, adding that in this case, endangered and marks for marking the waterway.

According to Rogić, for now there is no major damage to the vessels that are connected to the Sava River. He warned boat owners to take care of their boats and protect them as much as possible.

Rogić says that the height of the water level on the Sava River is unusual for August and that the navigability of the river is good, but garbage and floating objects can damage the propellers of motor boats, Fena news agency reported.
