Today, the Centar Sarajevo Municipal Council, with 16 votes in favor, ten against and two abstentions, recalled the mayor Srđan Mandić, thus creating the conditions for the citizens to make the final decision on the mayor’s dismissal in a referendum on September 17.
At today’s session, Chief Mandić asked the Council to discuss the Request for reconsideration of the decision to initiate the impeachment of the chief and the Instructions for conducting the impeachment, but the independent councilor of the Bosnian Senate proposed a Conclusion rejecting the request. Sixteen councilors voted for the conclusion, which is the minimum threshold for adoption. Ten councilors voted against, and two abstained.
Mayor Mandić explained the point at the session today, saying that on July 28 he submitted a request for a review of the decision to initiate the impeachment, because the decision was made contrary to the provisions of the Statute and Rules of the Municipality of Centar.
The councilors of Our Party and the Social Democratic Party strongly reacted to the accusations that Mandic did not do his job, pointing out that there is no criminal complaint against him and that his impeachment is happening because certain councilors want to use the municipality’s budget for pre-election purposes.
The initiative for the dismissal of Chief Mandić was previously submitted by Narod i Pravda, “unsatisfied with Mandić’s work”, and it was supported by SBB party and some independent councilors.
On July 27, the Centar Sarajevo Municipal Council accepted the initiative to initiate the impeachment of the mayor of this municipality, Srđan Mandić.
Individual voting determined that 18 councilors supported the initiative, one councilor was against, while two abstained. A new vote was held today because Mandic filed an objection to the impeachment vote, considering that the procedures were violated.
