becirovic hennessyChairman of the House of Representatives of the BIH Parliament Denis Bećirović spoke yesterday with the Head of the Council of Europe in BiH Mary Ann Hennessey-Gopal, who was interested in the concrete actions that are being carried out so that all representatives could return to their jobs and continue the already started activities concerning constitutional and other reforms.

Bećirović said that he is in daily contact with all members and parties of the House of Representatives and that he thinks that the new situation requires a continued session of the House of Representatives and the House of Peoples, as well as other state organs.

“Only in this way can the issue of the unique citizen master number be solved in a reasonable time, as well as constitutional reforms that are required by the judgment in the “Sejdić-Finci” case. For this to happen, it is necessary for all representatives of the legislative and executive branches to return to their jobs as soon as possible in state institutions, in the capital city of BIH, Sarajevo, and to seriously start activities with the goal to unblock the reform process in the country’’, said Bećirović.

Hennessey-Gopal said that the harmonization of the BIH Constitution with the European Convention on Human Rights, one of the most important obligations of BIH on the path to the European Union and that the Council of Europe is worried that so far there have not been concrete results regarding the issue of “Sejdić-Finci”.

“The Council of Europe makes it clear that constitutional reform represents an inevitable international legal obligation that has to be in accordance with international standards’’, she said.

Bećirović said in an interview that all officials in BiH, members of the BiH Presidency, Council of Ministers of BIH and the PSBiH has to be aware that on 1 July Croatia will enter the EU and are waiting for the adoption of important decisions, among which is the Agreement on border crossings in order to enable a normal traffic of people and goods between BiH and the EU.

In case of inaction of state authorities, he added that in a few weeks a number of dissatisfied people who are ready for protest could increase.

On the occasion of the new situation and everyday protests of citizens in front of BIH institutions, Bećirović repeated his position that all in BiH have to act and behave in accordance with the Constitution and laws in BiH, and respect the rights of citizens to a peaceful, democratic gathering and freedom of expression.

“At the same time with this right, no one is allowed to block or obstruct the smooth functioning of the legislative, executive and judicial authorities of BIH, concluded Bećirović and announced from the BiH Parliament.
