Advice of Parliamentarian from Berlin to Politicians in BiH

berlin-parliamentarianMaja Lasic from Mostar attracted great attention of both national and regional media with her convincing victory in the elections for the Parliament of the Federal State of Berlin.

Maja, as a member of the current ruling party SPD, won a total of 31 % of votes in the city district of Berlin Wedding and thus entered the Parliament of the Federal State of Berlin, thus positioning on convincing first place by the number of votes.

Her success is particularly important considering that she came in Germany back in 1992 as a 14 year old girl and a refugee from war-torn BiH.

“The key factor in any election campaign is to be oriented towards citizens. I was interested to know what is happening in Wedding and what can I improve. It’s very interesting how communication with citizens is considered special in Balkans, but the direct communication with voters is part of every campaign in Germany. The more intense, the more successful it is. It would not be bad if the politicians from Balkans would do the same,” said Lasic.

“I had more than 20 years for process of withdrawal from politics in BiH. It was painful, but I eventually gave up on politics in BiH and focused on what I can change, and that’s Berlin,” said Lasic, adding that she is not planning to return to BiH, although she is happy to visit.

She is also known for her involvement in helping refugees that are arriving in Germany.

“A lot has changed in the last 20 years. Germany has realized the fact that the people who come as refugees return to their own countries in a small number and so from the first day we are working on the integration of refugees.”

Due to the crisis in the European Union, caused by Brexit, the influx of refugees and the strengthening of right wing, politicians and experts recently predicted its disappearance.

Lasic said that the EU has no alternative.
