The total number of farms in the territory of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska where the presence of African swine fever has been confirmed is 42, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the RS announced on Monday.
“The disease has so far been confirmed in Bijeljina in the villages of Vršani, Čađavica Donja, Magnojević Gornji, Dragaljevac Gornji, Dragaljevac Donji and Dragaljevac Srednji, and it has not spread to other municipalities. According to the report submitted to date by the local crisis center of Bijeljina, harmless removal of 1,232 pigs from 29 infected farms,” the Ministry said.
It is added that they will continue to regularly monitor the situation on the ground and take all necessary measures and steps in order to suppress and prevent the spread of this infectious disease.
“In order to adequately prevent the spread and control of the disease, we appeal to pig owners to strictly adhere to all prescribed measures, especially biosecurity measures, to immediately report any suspicious condition of the animal and death to the competent veterinary inspector or the competent veterinarian,” the statement from the Ministry states.
It was pointed out that the movement of animals is strictly prohibited, and that movement from and to farms should be restricted, disinfection barriers should be installed, shoes and clothes should be changed when leaving the farm.
In the territory of RS, it is prohibited to hold fairs, exhibitions and other gatherings of animals, the sale of food of animal origin and feed for animals outside business premises, as well as the operation of livestock markets.
