After the Initiative of UK on Srebrenica: Russia to submit a Resolution on Srebrenica Today

Russia Srebrenica Resolution balkans.aljazeera.netThe mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nations will submit a draft resolution on Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UN Security Council on Monday.

This is the Russian response to the resolution on Srebrenica, which was proposed for the adoption to the UN Security Council by the United Kingdom, with the support of two other permanent members, the United States and France, and which the Government of Serbia opposed to.

According to information from diplomatic sources, the Russian resolution does not mention by name Srebrenica or any other crime, but condemns all war crimes committed in the former Yugoslavia during the nineties.

Also, Russia in the document insists on respecting the Dayton Agreement for B&H, as well as on reconciliation between the peoples and cooperation of the countries of the region.

The diplomatic sources elaborate that there are now two possible scenarios-that the UN Security Council declare on both resolutions which is not a common practice, or only the British one stays on the table, since it was submitted first. The scenario in which only the Russian proposal would be voted for in the end is practically impossible, because neither the British would allow it, nor would it be allowed by the Chairman New Zealand, who is a member of Commonwealth and a traditional ally of the United Kingdom.
