Agreement on Sejdić-Finci Shows European Commitment to B&H

maryMember of the Party for Democratic Action (SDA) in the B&H House of Representatives and member of the delegation of B&H in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Senad Šepić spoke in Sarajevo with the Head of the Office of the Council of Europe to B&H Mary Ann Hennessey on the current political situation in B&H, suggestions for future action and especially the possibility for an agreement to the implementation of the Sejdić-Finci case.

They agreed that it would be necessary to make every effort to reach an agreement and that the people responsible for leading the country that are called for a meeting in Brussels on 1 October to go there with an agreed proposal for the final resolution of this issue that has been waiting for a solution for four years.

They also spoke of the modalities of the presentation of B&H at the next session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe that will be held in Strasbourg at the beginning of October, where a discussion on B&H will be on the agenda, and where Šepić would present the situation in B&H.

“An agreement on the ruling in Strasbourg has to be reached in the next period, by October at the latest and the meeting in Brussels, so the people that are leading this country have to either be responsible or leave their posts, because they are stealing our future and the future of our children’’, said Šepić.

He stressed that one cannot declaratively say that they support the European path and perspective of B&H, but refuse to reach an agreement around the key issue, which means unlocking the European path, and that is this judgment.

The opinion is that the agreement must ensure for everyone in B&H equal opportunity and the right to be a candidate, and this would mean getting a date to start membership talks on B&H membership to the EU, announced SDA.

“There is no more important job now, from unblocking the European path and the opportunity for B&H to catch up for the European path, and especially after the last positive events in the region, from Croatia and its membership to the EU, to Serbia and obtaining a date and the clear European perspectives that ensured them a new, responsible leadership of the country’’, added Šepić.

He expressed the conviction that B&H leaders would understand the importance of this moment and reach an agreement, and he said that SDA, even if it is not a part of the ruling coalition at the level of B&H, would work actively on reaching an agreement and would support every solution that would enable the implementation of the ruling.
