Agricultural Producers in BiH are not satisfied with the Corn Crop

Due to the natural disaster caused by the drought, agricultural producers in Posavina are not satisfied with the corn crop. According to their estimates, the drought reduced the crop by about 50%.

This year’s corn harvest in Posavina already showed from the very beginning that the crop was significantly reduced in contrast to previous years. This outcome was somewhat expected, considering the summer heat and lack of rain.

“Unlike other years, this year really failed because of the drought and the corn is also small,” Edvin Hodžić Mehić, a farmer from Odžak, told Federalna.

The farmers did everything in their power to make the harvest as good as possible, however, they could not influence the weather conditions.

“It was sown on time, everything was fine, but the summer heat took its toll, reducing the crop by 50-60%, but what I have will be for our needs,” said Pavo Ilak, a farmer from Gornja Dubica.

The Government of Posavina Canton has made a decision to declare a state of natural disaster. Farmers, however, are not optimistic when it comes to aid.

“We would appreciate any help, now everything depends on the county, municipality, state, but considering the past years, there was little help. It is up to us to work, and now I don’t know how we will do it, how long we will do it. It’s difficult,” says Pavo Ilak, a farmer from Gornja Dubica.

Farmers still have to expect help from the authorities, and believe that next year will bring more crops.
