Ahmetovic in Bundestag: I am Adis, not Thomas, I will always carry a Part of BiH in me

Adis Ahmetovic from the Social Democratic Party of Germany(SPD), a young German politician of Bosnian descent, was elected a member of the Bundestag on Sunday and will form a Bosnian duo in the German parliament alongside Jasmina Hostert, née Pasic.

Ahmetovic, although born in Germany, is very attached to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). He said that he comes every year and that he will work in the interest of BiH in the legislative body of the most developed European country.

“My name is Adis Ahmetovic, my name is not Thomas Muller. I will always carry a part of Bosnia in me, I like coming to Sarajevo, Tuzla… I plan to come this year to visit my family,” Ahmetovic told at the beginning of the conversation, talkingabout ties with his homeland.

While trying to gather impressions after this incredible success, giving interviews for numerous renowned media and packing for Berlin, in an interview with reporters he admits that he himself did not expect such a success.

He celebrated with people from Zenica, Teslic, Mostar…

“I did not expect that result – 34.9 percent of the vote, which means that more than 44.000 people in Hanover voted for me to be their representative in the Bundestag. It proves that I have pursued good politics in recent years as a young politician,” Ahmetovic said.

Even though he is overjoyed by the election success, he states it is also a great obligation for him, in order to justify the great expectations of the voters.

Since Sunday night, he has been constantly receiving congratulations, many of whom are from BiH, but also from Serbia, Croatia, and other countries in the Western Balkans. Happiness with him at Sunday night’s celebration in Hanover was shared by people from Zenica, Teslic, Mostar, Zagreb, Belgrade…, although they are not members of the SPD.

“They were there to celebrate together with me, that’s very nice,” Ahmetovic pointed out.

When asked how much he will stand for his homeland in the Bundestag, Ahmetovic noted that BiH must be a topic in this parliament.

“The Western Balkans as a whole must be a topic, no country must be forgotten. Every country must be discussed equally. Jasmina Hostert and I have a chance to put it on the German political agenda in the Bundestag,” the young politician said, Klix.ba writes.
