The statistics, recorded every year, show a decreasing number of newborns in the Federation of Bosnia-Herzegovina entity, which can be characterized as one of the consequences of the political and economic crisis in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In 2019, a total of 17,490 babies were born in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while a year earlier, 1,409 more babies were born, or a total of 18,899. A year earlier, in 2017, a total of 19,824 babies were born. The Una-Sana Canton, Posavina Canton and Bosnia-Podrinje Canton for the period from 2017 to 2019 recorded a fall of about 20 percent and more in the number of babies born.

Macroeconomic analyst Faruk Hadzic posted on Twitter statistics of newborn babies in the Federation of BiH from 2017 to 2019, warning that these were catastrophic consequences.

“The largest current decline was recorded in Sarajevo Canton (-536), Tuzla Canton (-509) and Una-Sana Canton (-416),” Hadzic noted, adding that only West Herzegovina Canton recorded an increase in the number of babies born.

“What should happen to set the alarm on?” Faruk Hadzic wondered, Klix.ba news portal reports.
