The best female cyclist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lejla Njemčević, once again confirmed her belonging to the very top of the world, winning eighth place at the World Championship in the marathon discipline, held in San Martino di Castrozza, Italy.
This was an extremely hard and demanding race. In front of the world’s best female competitors was a harsh 95-kilometer course with as much as 4,000 meters of ascent.
Our competitor opened the race very experienced and tactically smart, holding the connection with a large group at the very beginning. Although earlier forecasts predicted rain, the high temperatures of the last two days completely dried the track.
The weather conditions and the dry surface did not favor our competitor this time, given that she historically achieves her best results precisely in difficult and muddy conditions.
In the second, most difficult part of the race, she managed to increase her pace, advance by two positions and secure 8th place, thus registering another top 10 ranking at the world championships in her career, Lejla Njemčević’s team announced.
“I am very proud that I once again promoted Bosnia and Herzegovina in the best way by winning the top 10 ranking at the World Championship. Although the warm weather did not help me, in the second part of the track I showed mental strength, improved by two positions and won 8th place. “Even though the course was extremely difficult, this has been one of the favorite races of my career so far,” said Lejla Njemčević after crossing the finish line.
There is no rest for our top cyclist; a new major challenge awaits her as early as next week, when she will compete in a World Cup race in Girona, Spain.
