Alcohol will not be served during the Celebration of New Year in Sarajevo?

new-year-sarajevoThe New Year concert by Dino Merlin in Sarajevo raised a lot of noise in the capital of BiH. Oil to the fire was the information that serving of Alcohol will be banned at the Square of BiH.

Many media in FBiH, and especially in Republika Srpska, as well as in the region, gave a lot of media space to this information, linking such decision with alleged Islamization of the society in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The hysteria related to the ban of the serving of alcohol in public space grew so much that the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton had to issue a statement.

“This ‘Sharia’ Law on public gatherings regulates the way in which public events are organized. This Law was also adopted in the National Assembly of RS and published in November 2008. It was signed by the President of the National Assembly of RS Igor Radojičić, now the Mayor of Banja Luka,” said Konaković.

To make the paradox even greater, absolutely the same law is on force in Banja Luka.  However, it occurred to no one to mention the Islamization of Banja Luka and the Sharia laws there.

For comparison, one of the most famous places in the world for New Year celebration is Times Square in New York. Millions of people welcome New Year there. What is interesting is that alcohol is banned during celebrations there!

More precisely, the ban of drinking and serving alcohol is on force not only at the Times Square, but in the entire New York throughout the year. A guide for tourists who come to celebrate New Year in New York clearly advises them to keep alcohol off public spaces because they will be penalized if they do not do so, and police confiscates alcohol they find in public spaces.

Of course, this does not mean that New York is Islamized and that it functions according to Sharia laws. No, that means that the ban of serving alcohol is on force in almost all civilized countries in the world, including BiH.

Unfortunately, some individuals tried to sell this story as the evidence of the incoming Islamization of Sarajevo, but the truth is on the opposite side, as usual.
