zeljko-janjetovicŽeljko Janjetović, Ambassador of BiH to Germany, spoke about the attack on the Holiday Market in that German city.

Suspect for the attack in which 12 people were killed and 48 injured is arrested. The truck with which he drove straight into the Holiday Market, among people, is registered in Poland. Witnesses say that the driver did not break and that he was aware of what he is doing.

When asked if there are any citizens of BiH among the victims of yesterday’s attack, Janjetović responded:

“We spoke with representatives of authorities in Berlin, with police and the diplomatic department, and we have not obtained any information that any of the citizens of BiH was injured in this tragic act. Although in order to have an official confirmation we should wait for the press conference, which is to be held soon. Then we will know more about the attack. What we know from our diaspora is that everyone is fine, there were some citizens of BiH at the site of the accident, but fortunately they were not injured. Cabinet of the Chancellor Merkel condemned the attack and mourn over the killed ones, and the Mayor of Berlin visited the site of the attack last night, expressing regret that something this terrible happened in the time when peace is supposed to be celebrated.”

Janjetović said that the citizens of Berlin are afraid.

“Of course, the morning brought reality and the first feeling we experience is fear, followed by uncertainty. Also, it is evident that something like this is not happening for the first time. This is not just about Berlin, this is about the Europe and the entire world,” Janjetović said, adding:

“This holiday atmosphere seemed like everything will be fine, but unfortunately this is what happened, in the most frequent part of Berlin. It is unbelievable that someone drives a truck straight into the crowd, at the speed of 80 kilometers per hour. Regarding the attack, the police will find out why this happened and make sure that something like this does not happen again.”
