Ambassador Ivancov comments on the Lawsuit against Serbia

Ivancov on Srebrenica novovrijeme.baAmbassador of Russia to Bosnia and Herzegovina Peter Ivancov, said that the request for review of the judgment of the International Court of Justice brought by BiH against Serbia is submitted without consent within the institutions of BiH.

He repeated that the Constitution requires from the BiH Presidency to decide on foreign policy issues, including relations between the international organizations, and in this case, two members of the Presidency were against the revision of the judgment.

“Although it can be said that the review of the judgment relates to the period when Slobodan Milosevic was president of Serbia, the revision of this particular lawsuit relates to the state of Serbia, which is why the Serbs in Serbia and the RS see this move as against them,” added Ivancov.

Ivancov believes that because of the lawsuit there may be some tensions, and calls a situation dangerous which can lead to some conflicts. He adds that the international community has to give its opinion on the issue of lawsuit and this is also the reason why he requested an extraordinary session of the Peace Implementation Council (PIC), which is scheduled for today at 13:00 o’clock.

In 1993, BiH filed a lawsuit against the (former)Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (Serbia and Montenegro) to the ICJ, and the verdict was reached on 26 February 2007, which established that genocide was committed in Srebrenica, but not in the other BH municipalities, thereby excluding the responsibility of Serbia for genocide.
