Ambassador Moon: No Country Can Deal with Terrorist Threats on its Own

The Ambassador of the US to BiH Patrick Moon said today in Sarajevo that no country could deal with the threat of terrorism on its own.

‘’Threats to national security are complex. They are international and with increasing levels of violence’’, said Moon after opening the five-day conference on inter-agency cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

According to him, after the terrorist attack on 11 September 2001, dramatic progress was made with the goal to exchange information and connect points in detecting possible terrorist attacks and protecting citizens and the country.

“We have to be well connected in order to triumph over those who are already well connected’’, said the US Ambassador. He expressed his belief that this conference would help BiH establish a network necessary to reject terrorist attacks.

Moon once again confirmed that the USA is ready to continue to assist its BiH partners in the fight against global terrorism.

The BiH Minister of Security Fahrudin Radončić said that protection from the threat of terrorism obligates the state and all its institutions at all levels. “It is about ensuring conditions for a peaceful and secure life for all its citizens’’, said Radončić.

He recalled that in BiH in the last three years there were three acts with elements of terrorism, in which one person was killed. He added that BiH is therefore firmly committed in the development of comprehensive measures aimed at preventing all forms of safety threats.

“The key actions of the intelligence agents of safety in BiH have to be focused on preventative action in order to discover and remove the causes that can lead to terrorism and recognition of extremist and terrorist intentions, and their control at an early stage’’, said Radončić.

The Joint Special Operations University and the US Embassy in BiH are the organizers of the conference on inter-agency cooperation in the fight against terrorism, which gathered officials and experts on security and defense ministries in BiH, as well as other institutions.
