Ambassador Sedar and Prime Minister Husic on easier Border Crossing and EU Integration

The Government of the Una-Sana Canton hosted a reception on Thursday for the Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Damijan Sedar, who met with the Cantonal Prime Minister Nijaz Hušić. During the meeting, they discussed European integration, the problems of Krajina residents living and working in Slovenia and the European Union, and the challenges associated with border crossings.

According to Prime Minister Hušić, the conversation was very open about strategic issues related to Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the position of the Una-Sana Canton in these processes.

“The Ambassador comes from a member state of the European Union, so one of the topics was the growth plan that we discussed earlier. Today, we explained the reasons why we, as a canton, did not support that plan. Slovenia is a strategic partner and friend of BiH, especially in the context of accession to the European Union and Euro-Atlantic integration. We also talked about everyday challenges. A large number of our people work in Slovenia and face difficulties in returning home. I have requested stronger involvement in resolving the border crossing issues with the European Union, especially in Croatia, in order to facilitate communication and the movement of people and goods,” said Prime Minister Hušić.

Ambassador Sedar emphasized the importance of the long-standing ties between Krajina and Slovenia and expressed support for the canton’s efforts in European integration.

”This was my first meeting with Prime Minister Hušić and an opportunity to learn about the current situation in the canton and future plans. It is clear that there are challenges in traveling to the European Union, and ideally it would be to find a more efficient border crossing regime in order to shorten the wait. We also discussed other challenges on Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path to European integration. I believe that the Una-Sana Canton should have its own positions in these processes, because EU integration is important for all levels of society. I am satisfied with this visit and I always enjoy coming to Bihać, which is one of the most beautiful parts of BiH with extremely hardworking people,” said Ambassador Sedar.

The conversation took place in a spirit of mutual understanding and readiness to strengthen cooperation in all areas of common interest, it was assessed after the meeting.
