On the occasion of April 22, Earth Day, the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo continued a tradition that has lasted for more than two decades, planting linden trees in the “Alley of Ambassadors”.

This year, linden trees were symbolically planted by ambassadors of four friendly countries: H.E. Maria Clara Duclos Carisio, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Syed Qaiser Abbas Shah, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, H.E. Åge Sandal Møller, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark, H.E. Walid Ahmed Abdelfattah Haggag, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The event was hosted by the Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Irfan Čengić, who, on behalf of the citizens of the Municipality, warmly welcomed the ambassadors and expressed gratitude for their participation in this symbolic tradition.

Since 2002, a total of 238 ambassadors and high-ranking representatives of international organizations have planted their trees in this alley, making it a living symbol of peace, friendship and international cooperation. With the planting of these four new trees, the total number of linden trees in the Alley of Ambassadors has reached 242.

After the planting was completed, Mayor Čengić presented the ambassadors with certificates as a token of gratitude and a lasting memory of this day. The ceremony concluded with a formal lunch in the authentic setting of Sabura’s House, one of the oldest and most beautiful traditional Bosnian houses, located in the heart of the Old Town.

This tradition, which has been nurtured for more than twenty years, represents respect for nature, but also an honor for the ambassadors who thereby leave their mark on the history of Sarajevo and BiH, Klix.ba writes.
