Ambassador of Sweden Helena Lagerlöf, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway Kathrine Biering, Chargé d’Affaires and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark Carsten Aagesen and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in BiH Sara Lindegren visited the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC BiH) today.

On that occasion, they spoke with the President of the HJPC BiH Sanin Bogunić, Vice President Sanela Gorušanović Butigan and permanent member Sedin Idrizović, as well as with Judge and President of the Criminal Department of the Court of BiH Željka Marenić and Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milanko Kajganić.

“The visit was carried out with the aim of expressing the support of the aforementioned Nordic countries to the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina and judicial institutions at the level of BiH in their professional work – the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina”, the HJPC BiH announced.

The representatives of Sweden, Norway and Denmark highlighted their long-standing partnership with the judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is based on a clear interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina becoming a strong democracy rooted in the rule of law.

“The representatives of the three countries recognize the pressures that the judicial institutions at the level of BiH have faced in the last three months and wish to provide their support, emphasizing that preserving the independence of the judiciary is the foundation for entry into the European Union,” the statement added.

President Bogunić thanked the aforementioned countries for the support they have provided to the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past decades. He also thanked the representatives of Sweden, Norway and Denmark for the unequivocal support that was highlighted in today’s talks, emphasizing that he is pleased with the unique Nordic approach.

President Bogunić also said that the professional work of the judicial institutions in recent months is clear evidence of the independence, commitment and strength of the judiciary of Bosnia and Herzegovina to make a major step forward on the path to the European Union.
