The Croatian Parliament held a memorial service in honour of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
They send the message that we should remain persistent in exposing crimes and show solidarity for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
The commemoration in honour of the 21st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide was held in the Small Hall of the Croatian Parliament and it was organized by the Council of Bosniak Minority of Zagreb and Croatian Cultural Society of Bosniaks ”Preporod.”
The master of ceremonies was BiH actor Emir Hadžihafizbegović. The mosque assembly ”Arabeske,” led by Aziz Alili, also performed in the Small Hall.
The President of Croatian Parliament Željko Reiner said that the Srebrenica genocide took place before the eyes of the international public, which makes this crime especially serious. Reiner expressed his deep compassion with the mothers of Srebrenica.
Reiner also emphasized that the task of this commemoration is to point out every crime led by religious, national or racial hatred, as well as to condemn those who continue to deny that the genocide was committed in Srebrenica in 1995.
Srebrenica was and still is a defeat for the humanity emphasized Reiner, adding that Srebrenica commits everyone in Southeast Europe to be persistent in exposing the crimes committed in Srebrenica.
The Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandić, called the Srebrenica tragedy the most brutal crime against humanity in Europe after the Second World War. He said that even after 20 years the truth about Srebrenica is still incomplete.
The MP of Albanian, Bosniak, Montenegrin, Macedonian and Slovenian minority, Ermina Lekaj Prljaskaj emphasized that the victims of Srebrenica are deeply embedded in the foundations of Croatian statehood.
The Croatian Parliament declared a Day of Remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide in 2009 and in that way they became a part of the parliaments that recognize the genocide in Srebrenica.
The commemoration and remembrance of the 21st anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica will be held again on the evening of 7th of July in front of the Islamic Center in Zagreb.
