Amela Becirspahic is officially a divorced woman, and the child is entrusted to her for care and custody, according to the decision of the Cantonal Court in Novi Travnik.

With that, the appeal was rejected and the ruling of the Municipal Court in Bihac was confirmed for this victim of domestic violence and mother who has been fighting for months to exercise her parental rights.

It should be mentioned that Becirspahic went on a hunger strike for 35 days on the town square in Bihac after she had, as she claimed at the time, reported her husband for abuse, while a social worker enabled him to take the child without carrying out the procedures prescribed by law and despite earlier findings of the competent authorities.

During the 35 days of hunger strike, Amela lost more than 16 kilograms, which led to a deterioration of her health condition and the need for medical examination and further measures in accordance with doctors’ recommendations.

With the decision of the Cantonal Court in Novi Travnik, the procedure has been concluded, and the decision of the Municipal Court in Bihac remains in force.

“This decision is of crucial importance for the protection of the victim of violence, as it confirms the safety and rights of the mother and child,“ it was stated by the organization Glas zene Bihac, which stood by Becirspahic throughout the entire appeal process, Klix.ba writes.
