Are the Amendments to the Dayton Peace Agreement possible?

h20161013031813President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović spoke yesterday in Brussels with the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker about the need for amendments to the Dayton Peace Agreement.

Grabar-Kitarović pointed out that this agreement has already been changed with many amendments to the Constitution of BiH, which is why the question arises how much they influenced the erosion of constitutive equality of three nations in BiH.

Grabar-Kitarović said that in this regard Croatia will launch discussions and initiatives with the USA because the current European initiative cannot focus only on economic and social processes, but it also must cover politics.

Noting that BiH is a unique case, Grabar-Kitarović assessed that some conditions should be set for BiH to complete in order to become entirely functional and thus make progress on the path towards membership in the EU and NATO.

“That political construction of institutions is truly important and that is what the European initiative lacks,” said Grabar-Kitarović.

During the meeting, Grabar-Kitarović asked Juncker to make European Commission help BiH in the process of reforms on the path towards the EU, as well as in the process of arrangement of issues in the country, with the aim of making all three nations entirely equal throughout the country.

Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić stated that Serbia will only support the agreement between the three nations in BiH.

When asked to comment on the fact that the idea of the revision of the Dayton Peace Agreement was presented at the meeting between the Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, Vučić said that Serbia will only support the agreement between Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
