The United States (U.S.) approved on Friday a potential foreign military sale to Israel worth three billion dollars, the State Department announced.
The sale includes ammunition, guidance kits, and Caterpillar D9 bulldozers, according to the statement from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
The agency stated that Secretary of State Marco Rubio determined that “an emergency exists,” requiring an urgent sale to Israel, waiving the requirement for Congressional review.
The largest part of the agreement, worth 2.04 billion dollars, includes general-purpose bomb bodies and 4.000 penetrating warheads.
The second package, worth 675.7 million dollars, includes MK 83 and BLU-110 bomb bodies and JDAM guidance kits, with delivery estimated to begin in 2028.
Israel will also receive Caterpillar D9R and D9T bulldozers for 295 million dollars, with delivery in 2027.
The Trump administration justified the sale as critical for Israel’s defense and as a means of deterrence against regional threats, stating that it aligns with the U.S. national interest to assist Israel.
The U.S. has faced longstanding criticism for supporting Israel’s military attack on Gaza amid widespread reports of violations of international and U.S. laws.
A State Department report in May stated that it is “reasonable to assess” that Israel used U.S.-manufactured weapons in ways that are not consistent with international humanitarian law. The report did not reach a final conclusion, stating that there is no “complete information.”
The latest sale comes after the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza expired last night, and negotiations for the next phase are underway in Cairo.
Since last month, a ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement has been in effect, pausing Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, which has killed more than 48.300 people, mostly women and children, and left the enclave in ruins.
Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its war in the enclave.
