Are we even aware of the importance of knowing how to provide first aid? Many of us are probably not. However, examples of saving lives can and must serve as inspiration for us. The meeting of the saved girl with the doctor who saved her health and life is inspiring and incredible. It happened yesterday morning, quite by chance, in the studio of a Bosnian and Herzegovinian (BiH) TV channel in an interview.

In that interview, with the aim of promoting the importance of first aid knowledge, there were doctor Vedad Herenda and Sara Spiric, a volunteer at the Federation of BiH (FBiH) Red Cross.

Sara emphasized her reasons for volunteering, pointing out that helping someone is – essentially, a priceless feeling.

The meeting that took place during Sara’s and the doctor’s interview is proof of the priceless feeling of gratitude.

It was Doctor Vedad Herenda who saved the life of Selma Trnovac, a young intern at this BiH TV channel, who had a terrible accident while hiking a few years ago.

“I was hiking on Treskavica in 2015. During the ascent, I fell on a demanding part of the terrain, down the rocks. Fortunately, Dr. Vedad was on the mountaineering team. He immediately gave me first aid and knew what the injury was – I broke my collarbone. During the rest of the tour, he took care of me. At one point, he was worried about how my mom would react, so he asked me if she was a “Namcor” (a grumpy person). I answered that she wasn’t, but that I love that song by Balasevic, and he then started singing that song to me, together with the other participants,” Selma recalled, thanking the doctor once more.

“I heard a scream when I turned around – I couldn’t believe it, it looked like a scene from a movie. I thought it could be a fatal injury,” the doctor recalled.

The doctor fixed Selma to his body with ropes and emphasized that this case best illustrates the importance of adequate first aid, N1 reports.
