The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a verdict sentencing Duško Vujičić to six years and Duško Maksimović to one and a half years in prison for crimes against civilians in the Kotor-Varoš area in 1992, while Savo Tepić and Ilija Kurušić were acquitted, reports BIRN.
Vujičić and Maksimović were convicted of inhumane treatment of non-Serb civilians in Kotor-Varoš, while both of them, along with Tepić and Kurušić, were acquitted of persecution.
According to the Court’s decision, Vujičić was ordered into custody.
The indictment states that from June to the end of 1992, they participated in a wide and systematic attack and – by murder, detention, torture, forced disappearance of persons and other inhuman acts, with the aim of inflicting physical and psychological suffering – committed the persecution of the Bosniak and Croat population from the area of Kotor-Varoš and surrounding villages.
Tepić was charged as the head of the Public Security Station in Kotor-Varoš and a member of the Crisis Staff, Vujičić and Maksimović as members of the police, and Kurušić as a member of the Republika Srpska Army.
Their trial began in May 2014.
The defendants in this case were Radojko Keverović and Dragoslav Bojić, in relation to whom the proceedings were separated due to their health condition, and Rade Škorić, against whom the proceedings were suspended due to death.
An appeal is allowed against this judgment.
