Analysis of the Current Tourism Situation in Canton Sarajevo

touristsTourist season in Canton Sarajevo (CS) has already received the status of success and there are more tourists in comparison to the last year by about 9%. From the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism said that more should be done, and that the Tourist Board has problem with illegal overnight stays.

High temperatures failed to spoil the plans of tourists from around the world when it comes to Sarajevo. City is visited for almost 10% more than last year, and the number of those who spend the night in the capital is higher by 11%. However, these figures are incomplete because there is big number of those who are not registering their accommodation capacities and the number of guests at overnight stays.

“In our country only legal entities report guests, not physical. Compared to last year, there are more overnight stays by about 11%, and this figure would be far higher if we have accurate information,“ said spokesman for the Tourist Board of Sarajevo Canton Asja Hadziefendic-Mesic.

Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism Edita Djapo said that the tourism sector is conditioned by three laws.

“We are working on three laws that are regulating this area, namely the Law on Tourism, Law on Tourist Tax and the Law on catering business. Thus we will regulate the status of tourist communities, i.e. there will be a possibility to organize them at the municipal, inter-municipal, cantonal and federal level,” stated Djapo.

Tourists we met in the city told us that they are either in a one-day pass through the town, or they are staying for two nights.

„I am from Denmark, and we are staying for two days. Me and my friends like the city, it is a bargain compared to our prices, food is cheap and very tasty,“ said Sebastian Skjot.

Ten countries from which most tourists are coming to BiH are: Turkey, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, United Arab Emirates, the USA, South Korea, Austria, Germany and Italy.
