Trust in Media hercegbosna.orgAccording to the survey conducted in several cities in B&H by the Association “Pozitivne vrijednosti” within the project “Read, watch, react”, 80.5 percent of surveyed citizens consider that the prosecutor’s offices in B&H should open investigations on the basis of media contents reporting on irregularities in the work of politicians and persons holding a public office.

“Through this survey, we wanted to find out what the citizens think of the work and reaction of the prosecutor’s offices when it comes to media contents indicating the abuse of office, corruption, illegal activities of individuals and groups from political and public life in B&H, but also to show and indicate which consequences does the non-reacting of the relevant institutions cause”, the Association stated.

One of those consequences is the issue of trust in the media and the prosecutors. Thereby, 76.8 percent of respondents pleaded they do not trust the judicial institutions in B&H, and 54.9 percent of them that they do not trust the media.

Thirty one percent of respondents showed their confidence in the media, and only 14.5 percent in judicial institutions.

When asked to whom they would rather report some crime they find out about, 51 percent of respondents opted for the media, and 35.5 percent for the prosecutor’s offices and the police.

Within this project, the Association “Pozitivne vrijednosti” created and distributed in the streets of the cities in B&H the brochure “Read, watch, react”, which consists excerpts from the Code of prosecutors and journalists, the journalists and prosecutors about each other, basic terms related to the work of the prosecution, but also the addresses of the institutions which the citizens can address in case they believe that the media or judiciary violate some of their rights.
