Bosnia and Herzegovina soccer player Anel Ahmedhodžić (25) announced that he will not play for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the upcoming period due to, as he stated, public pressure and numerous insults he received via social networks.
In an interview with N1, he confirmed that he will not play for the national team in the near future and stated the reasons for his decision.
“I used to think we had the best fans, who always support us players when we win, draw or lose. Always loud and singing. But unfortunately, after this last week, to attack my personal life like this? Thousands of messages saying all the worst things you can. As I said, the biggest reason I decided to play for BiH was our people.
Now I have no reason to come and play. A lot of things are wrong in the national team, but I didn’t think I would stop for the sake of the fans. I don’t have an ego, I don’t think I’m ‘Sergio Ramos’, I don’t want any special treatment, I value my peace in life and this dramatic shit happens too many times, I don’t have the energy and will to continue with this drama. My fondest memory, after my son was born, was hearing the national anthem for the first time in my first game against Northern Ireland. I have decided not to play for the national team in the near future. I wish my teammates and the new coaching staff all the best,” said Ahmedhodžić.
Anel Ahmedhodžić made his debut for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 8, 2020.
The Sheffield United defender played 24 games for the Dragons and scored one goal.
