With a decision by the General Staff of the Army of RBiH, the Fifth Corps of the ARBiH was formed 24 years ago. Within the marking of this date, a solemn academy was held yesterday in Bihać and attended by the war leaders of the Fifth Corps and representatives of federal, cantonal and municipal authorities.
The marking event started early in the morning with the laying of flowers at the central memorial Humci and the Roman Catholic Cemetery “Križ-Žegar” in Bihać. Flowers were laid by delegations of the Government and Assembly of the Una-Sana Canton. After that, the delegations visited the military base “Adil Bešić”, where the former fighters, chiefs and members of the Fifth Corps gathered.
An academy was held in the afternoon in the House of Culture in Bihać. It was attended by generals Ramiz Dreković and Atif Dudaković, war commandants of the Fifth Corps of ARBiH, Minister for Issues of Veterans and Disabled Veterans of the Defense-Liberation War of FBiH Salko Bukvarević, Minister of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry of FBiH Šemsudin Dedić, Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton Husein Rošić, ministers from the USK government, representatives of municipal authorities from the territory of this canton, the City of Bihać and many other invitees and guests.
“Fifth Corps is the synonym for resistance against the aggressor and we must never forget this date,” said the general Atif Dudaković.
Fifth Corps of ARBiH was one of seven corps in the Army of RBiH. It was established on October 21, 1992 at the free territory of the northwestern Bosnia, in the area of Cazin. Corps command was in Bihać and the responsibility zone included almost the entire Krajina.
During the aggression, the corps was operating in very difficult conditions, in full encirclement, defying the double, and in one period even triple, enemy force. On the day of establishment, the Fifth Corps had seven brigades and its commandants were generals Ramiz Dreković and Atif Dudaković.
During the operation “Sana 95” led in the fall of 1995, the Fifth Corps defeated the forces of Fikret Abdić and liberated Velika Kladuša, and they also defeated the Serb forces, thus liberating Bosanski Petrovac, Ključ and Bosanska Krupa. Eventually, working with the Seventh Corps of the ARBiH they also liberated Sanski Most.
Because of the exceptionally difficult conditions in which this corps was established and operating, as well as because of the achieved results, the Fifth Corps is considered one of the best corps of the ARBiH.
