Anwar Hashimi: This is a Film about the Fight for Equality

The film NO GOOD MEN does not show Afghanistan only through war and tragedy. Instead, it brings a touching story about people who try to build ordinary lives through humor and warmth.

The film NO GOOD MEN was shown in the Open Air programme. Screenwriter and actor Anwar Hashimi attended the screening at the Coca-Cola Summer Cinema.

“This is a film that does not portray Afghanistan only through war and tragedy. Instead, this film, through humor and warmth, tells the story of people who work, argue, joke, fall in love, raise children and try to build ordinary lives. They strive for normality and a better tomorrow while history moves around them in ways they cannot control. I think that is what makes the film so moving. Shahrbanoo shows us what existed before it was lost, and this allows us to understand much more clearly what is at stake. Unfortunately, Shahrbanoo Sadat could not be with us tonight and we sincerely hope to welcome her to Sarajevo soon. But I am very happy that we have someone with us who is crucial to this film,” said Jovan Marjanović, director of the Sarajevo Film Festival.

“It’s my first time in Sarajevo and I’m very happy to be here. This city really touched me. Our film is not about good or bad men or women, but about patriarchy and the fight for equality. Shahrbanoo wanted to make a film about her life and work at an Afghan TV station. The original idea was a pentalogy, but after discussions we decided to make a trilogy. So, in 2016, we made the film ‘Wolf and Sheep’ in 2019. ‘The Orphanage’, which is based on my life story, and finally this achievement,” said Anwar Hashimi and wished the large audience at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema to enjoy the film.

On Tuesday, August 18, Anwar Hashimi will be a guest at the Grand Coffee with… programme on Festival Square, starting at 12:30 p.m.
