Delegation of the Association of organizers of resistance, retired and demobilized veterans of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO) laid wreath and lit candles for the killed and deceased soldiers of HVO Sarajevo and the Croatian brigade “Kralj Tvrtko” today at the cemetery ”St, Joseph”, on the occasion of the holiday of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
It was highlighted that, at the very beginning of aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of HVO stood in defense of Sarajevo, together with other troops.
”We launched preparations for defense already in 1991 within the Croatian Economic Society of B&H, which initiated the establishment of HVO Sarajevo, with the aim of preserving Croatian existence in the capital of B&H, as well as the ideas of multiconfessionality, multiculturality, and multiethnicity. Nowadays, we still live and work in Sarajevo, the capital of all citizens of B&H, and our aim and task is to cherish the tradition of coexistence, peace, and tolerance. We sincerely hope that one day we will have a monument to our killed veterans in Sarajevo”, said Marinko Pejić, the first war president and the founder of HVO Sarajevo.
President of the Association Vladimir Džakula emphasized that it would not be possible without the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the defense of these noble ideas.
