asylum centerThe Head of the Team for the monitoring of the implementation of visa-free regime and Secretary of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Dautbašić told FENA that the Asylum Center in Delijaš, in the municipality of Trnovo has started its operation.

“Asylum seekers have been transferred there. It is a center that is built according to the latest standards and one of the most modern asylum centers in the region. It is fully functional, so we have closed this chapter from our remaining obligations under the Road Map,” said Dautbašić said, adding that the opening of the asylum center means fulfilling another set task.

Municipality of Trnovo earlier this month issued a use permit for the Asylum Center in Delijaš, which removed the last obstacle for the opening of this facility.

“We have finally obtained this document necessary for the operation of the center, so we immediately began the relocation of personnel and the asylum seekers.

We have put a lot of effort into putting this center into operation as soon as possible, because it is a building that meets European standards, and conditions are better than the ones in the countries in the region and even in some EU countries,” told FENA Deputy Minister of Security of BiH Mladen Ćavar.

The official opening ceremony of the asylum center will be held next month, and the precise date is being agreed with the Delegation of the European Union to BiH, which co-financed the project.

The total value of the project amounts to 5,022,305 BAM, of which 2,088,560 have been allocated from the budget of the Ministry of Security and the rest, 2.933.745 BAM was provided by the European Union Delegation to BiH through IPA.

The center consists of facilities for accommodation, admittance premises and the building for the initial reception and accommodation of persons under international protection (asylum), restaurant, clinic, administrative building of the center (registration facility, interview premises, free legal aid, as well as facility for UNHCR in BiH and non-governmental organizations involved in the process of international protection in BiH), heating system, water supply network and water catchments.

The center will have 150 beds, with the possibility of expanding the capacity in case of a sudden influx of migrants seeking asylum.
